The Lady Rebels were up first and as the first overall seed, they hosted the 16th seed, which was Georgia Military College. The Lady Rebels struggled on offense early on as the spirited Bulldogs from Milledgeville came ready to play.

However, a hot second quarter gave the Lady Rebels a 34-21 lead. The Bulldogs, who came in with a 14-10 record, battled and gave the Lady Rebels a full game. But the Lady Rebels, with a strong senior class leading the way, pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 65-44.

Mylashia Yancey, who at times took over the game, finished with 25 points. Also scoring in double figures was Brishuana Barnes and Zakiyah Office with 10 points each.

In the nightcap, the Rebels, the third seed overall, would host the Quitman County Hornets from Georgetown. The Hornets were the 14th seed with an overall record of 17-10.  The Hornets possessed a quickness that the Rebels had a little difficulty adjusting to early on but they still managed to take a 32-23 lead into the half.

The Hornets absolutely wouldn’t go away and fought until the very end but the Rebels just had too much in the end as they won 69-59. Junior Tamorrion Terry was a man amongst boys as he finished with 37 points and 26 rebounds. This was after missing portions of the first half due to a finger injury. DeAndre Pierce also had a strong game finishing with 12 points.

With the victories, both squads advance to the quarterfinals which will be held on the campus of Valdosta State. The Lady Rebels (28-0) will be taking on Telfair County Thursday afternoon at 3:00. The Lady Rebels have defeated them in their previous three meetings this year.
Meanwhile, the Rebels (22-6) will also be having a rematch as they will take on Calhoun County Friday afternoon at 4:45. The Cougars are the defending state champions but the Rebels defeated them back in January in Ashburn.
